On Sunday, October 23rd: The Squid Jig Making Workshop will be held!
For those of you don’t fish, I know you have no idea what a squid jig(餌木) is.
It is a very traditional squid fishing tool from Japan. One of the last samurais, Mr. Takamori Saigo, a very famous Japanese historical figure, is known to have been good at creating this tool. (You can see a fishing tool created by him at the exhibition, “The Angling Culture of Japan: History, Diversity and Philosophy of Fishing”.
Sound too professional? Don’t worry. I’m very confident that even those who don’t fish would enjoy this workshop!
You can create your own pattern like these by using poster colors or felt pens. It’s very easy and fun!
We actually held the same workshop the other day with some members of “Wano-kai”, a group to support art activities in Fukuoka. For more information, please check out the following website. (
