The scenery of the waterside is somehow nostalgic.
There was a big box full of stacked old postcards. Coincidentally, the one that
was situated on the top of the stack had an image of fishing. About thirty
years ago, I found it at my favorite secondhand book shop. “If you like it,
please take it for free.” The bookshop owner said. However, I gave him a 1,000
yen bill and took it home. The box contained about 300 picture postcards of famous
tourist spots in the pre-war period. I studied each picture, but none of the
other postcards had an image of fishing.
Kanamori
Naoharu, a collector of fishing related articles, described in his book
“Traveling within picture postcards: Waterside archive of angler”. It was the
first postcard with an angling image that he was first collected. Mr. Kanamori
kindly donated the collection of picture postcards which he had collected
throughout 30 years.
In this
exhibition, we will pick up and introduce some old postcards that show old
sceneries of waterside such as river, lake, shore, and port. Please explore the
nostalgic Japanese watersides while viewing the donated angling picture
postcards.
