【Feature Exhibition 3】Tibetan Mandala Tue.21st January,2020 – Sun. 13th September.2020

The Fukuoka City Museum stores a collection of Tibetan Buddhist art donated by the Nanzo-in Temple in Sasaguri town. This is a replica of a Tibetan Buddhist temple to scale, made especially for “The Tibet Exhibition of Japan”, which traveled throughout Japan in 1983. It was modeled after the actual Buddhist temple in India and created under the supervision of the high priest of Tibetan Buddhism. The collection consists of 400 items which includes drawings of Buddha, sutras, Buddhist altar fittings and instruments.
This exhibition reproduces the interior of the Tibetan Buddhist temple - more significantly, its altar. It also exhibits a 3D mandala, which symbolizes the core values of Tibetan Buddhism and reveals its structure and hidden meanings. Please enjoy the colorful and mysterious space dedicated to Tibetan Buddhist art.
